The STAR Program (Safety Training Awards Recognition) is a great innovative effort by
Painters' District Council No. 14 and its employer partners, Chicago PDCA/FCA, and
GDCNI, working through the JATC/DFTC School to create fresh incentives for Safety
Training and Continuing Education within the Union workforce.
It requires at least 1000 hours of work with at least 800 safe hours to qualify for
inclusion in the program, offering the opportunity to win very substantial prizes.
A minimum of 40 hours of training are required for the year, including at least 10
hours of Safety Training and 30 hours of Journeyman Skills Training. All program
participants must have fully-documented safe work and continuing education records.

At the end of the year, a banquet is held for the workers. All qualified participants
will be entered into a drawing to win a variety of prizes, one of which is a vehicle.
In addition, every attendee will receive a valuable door prize.
STAR participants are at liberty to select from available Journeyman Upgrading courses
for 30 hours of Skills Training, and may choose their 10 hours of Safety Training
from the following:
