Apprentice Wage Scale (Drywall Taper)

You are hereby notified than in accordance with the agreement entered into between PAINTERS DISTRICT COUNCIL #14 and GYPSUM DRYWALL CONTRACTORS OF NORTHERN ILLINOIS the following TAPER APPRENTICE wage scale is in effect as of JUNE 1, 2008 based on Journeyman rate of $36.90 per hour.

During 60 day Probationary Period 40% $14.76
61 days to 1000 Hours 50% $18.45
1001 to 2000 Hours 60% $22.14
2001 to 3000 Hours 70% $25.83
3001 to 4000 Hours 80% $29.52
Over 4000 Hours 100% $36.90
Upon completion of the term of two (2) years or four thousand (4000) hours, whichever occurs later, the Taper Apprentice will then step into the rank of Journeyman.

About the Drywall Tapers Apprenticeship Program

  • The Drywall Tapers Apprenticeship Program is a two (2) year program sponsored by Painters District Council #14 and the Drywall Contractors who are signatory to an agreement with the Union.

  • The Apprentices learn the trade while working on the job for Union Wages. Apprentices attend classes for 59 weeks: one (1) day each week for eight (8) hours per B.A.T. requirements.
